Expected Surge in Container Imports Before The April 9th Tariff
Due to the surge in cargo shipping driven by the upcoming April 9 tariff deadline, we anticipate limited drayage capacity in South Florida. Companies are rushing to ship their cargo before April 9 to maintain from current duty rates before the new US import tariffs kick in.
Per Annex III of the tariff announcement, articles entered or withdrawn from warehouses for consumption after 12:01 a.m. EDT on April 9, 2025, that were not already in transit before this deadline, will be subject to the new tariffs. Simply put, cargo must be loaded and already sailing toward the U.S. before this cutoff time to qualify for the lower duty rates.
Given these developments, we anticipate possible congestion at the Port of Miami and Port Everglades. To ensure your cargo is shipped under the current duty rates and to avoid potential delays, we strongly recommend reserving your shipping and drayage capacity immediately.
